Things To Focus On Today

Safety

  • PLAY SAFE ON THE MOUNTAIN - STAY WITHIN YOUR LIMITS! Mountain biking season is here, stay sober when riding and wear body protection at all times.

  • Please ask for help when needed!

  • Remember cut gloves!

  • Loud corner/behind calls etc

  • Don't roll up mats/stack mats before all guests have left the building. This is a trip hazard

  • Lets achieve 0 injuries at work this summer!

Employee Experience

  • Please come prepared for your shift. Positivity, uniform, footwear, nametag and a full belly! Eating at work is only while on break.

  • Please make sure we are working as a team- if you see something that needs doing don't leave it for the next person. Bar team should help out FOH while needed! 

  • Lots of club SHRED events coming up! Keep an eye on your emails.

Guest Experience

  • W.A.G. - Welcome all guests - this is key and critical when there isn't a host. STICKY HOST'S all day, every day! Lets get our guests sat down and hydrated stress free!

  • "No empty hands" If you food run to the patio, the expectation is that you're returning with empty glassware or quality checking on your return.

  • CAPP bar : make sure there is always to go cup for the coffee, cutlery and the fridges are full and we are not missing products that we might have somewhere else.

Guest Experience BOH

  • Hot Food Hot! Cold Food Cold!

  • Ensure accurate portion sizing. 

  • Keep aligned on portion audits - leadership to provide tablet for this.

  • One check items ready at the same time, except Nachos

  • Better plates, Better rates $$!!

Sustainability

  • Feedback: Compost bags always need to be double-bagged and cannot be over 10kg. This will help keep our shipping team safe!

  • We are achieving over 95% waste diversion!!

  • Please do not overfill broken glass bin! Not Safe!

  • Replace broken glass bin before HF shows.

  • Pleas keep bussing the pit properly during HF shows to avoid a lot of broken glass

  • Use both compost bins on busy nights, helps speed up bussing simultaneously.

  • Broken glass bin needs to be emptied every night!

  • Please remember to use the bussing stations in the pit. Especially around lunchtimes when there are lots of plates to bring back! Really helps speed up the process.

Safety Q3

 Adopting "Take 5" app as part of Leadership observations to strengthen Safety culture, while improving efficiency & productivity​. 10% reduction in reported incidents in Q3 from 27 in FY23 to 24 in Q3 FY 24​. 
 

  • All F&B Leadership to complete 3 x Take 5 app audits, observations & hazard assessments daily.​

  • FB Leaders; Snr Mgr.- Supervisors will review each building area, tasks & activities to STOP, observe, coach, correct, recognize desired behaviors & safe work practices.​ 

  • Take 5 activities​

  • Use as pre-shift tool/topic/include staff​

  • Pick area of observation from the list.​

  • Place yourself on an area where you can observe​

  • Identify where we are winning ​

  • Coach in the moment where we have opportunity​

Early season injuries are often caused by RUST. You are more likely to injure yourself and others when you are Rushing, Unfocused, Stressed or Tired.

You should STOP before doing any task to Think about your Options and use your decision making Power to keep yourself and others safe.

Employee Experience Q3

The EEX spotlight focus is on connection. Increase Employee Connection – Resort results to 80pts. The goal is improving the overall employee experience to drive enjoyment of the workplace and improve the likelihood of returning to and/or recommending Merlin's. 

  • Ensure all staff at all levels have a 1-1 with a 24+ Leader by end of Feb, with a BU SWOT by Mid-March. Focusing on: ​

  • How are they? What are they enjoying about Whistler/ F&B? Feedback? Next season plans? How can we improve through the lens of continuous improvement?​ 

  • Utilize In unit & resort recognition platforms. Avero Logbook, On The Spot, F&B Spotlight superstars, "What a legend" Pre-Shift acknowledgments ​

The Sustainability spotlight focus is Improve auditing & communicative actions to impact waste diversion score. Improved focus on daily audits and weekly uploads to tracking document. Improvements on the sharing/communications of audit & diversion results and necessary actions.​ Maintain departmental +90% waste diverted from landfill and achieve +90% per unit. ​ 


The goal is to divert 90% or more of all discarded materials from landfill and to reduce overall discards by 20%.                              "Know before you throw"
